GNC Merchandise Analyst in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Job Summary:

Responsible for forecasting and analyzing sales data. Develop plans and forecast product sales based on store placement and layout. Provide detailed analysis of all promotional efforts, product tests, daily operations, and make recommendations based on this information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

  • Analyze product sales and performance based on their in-store location. Develop plans or forecast for where products will achieve the highest sales.

  • Research, review and analyze the impact of merchandising and in-store promotional efforts on product sales and gross margins. Make recommendations on such analyses to upper management.

  • Generates daily sales and margin forecasts and analyzes trends in sales.

  • Provide reports and analytical support to all retailing departments for formal management presentations.

  • Utilize the point-of-sale system (POS) to track and report results of promotions including: price elasticity, proprietary or third party contests, and sales of test products. Analyze these results and communicate recommendations to the various areas of support.

  • Identify opportunities to improve business practice and processes with regard to product placement and merchandising.

  • Create and analyze testing result to recommend appropriate actions

Job Specifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2+ years experience in product merchandising, business analysis or related field.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent computer skills to include ability to query databases (using SQL), and manipulate large volumes of data using Excel.

  • Analytical and technical skills required to initiate develop and execute relevant business analytical projects.

  • An understanding of statistical analysis including regression modeling

  • Ability to work under timeliness and the pressure of multiple projects deadlines.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) needed to document all programs, reports, and screens.

  • Strong organizational skills, paying close attention to accuracy and details.
